Van Jackman started piping in college. He moved to Rochester and continued piping. He was a Lifetime Member of Rochester Scottish Pipe & Drum band.
He was a long time member of Feadan Or Pipe & Drum band. He also played the Scottish Small pipes and was part of Ceilidh Connection from the beginning.
He loved learning and would often go to Piping schools, as well as the Piper’s Gathering and other workshops.
Sadly, he passed away in August of 2010. He donated his Hamish Moore Scottish Small Pipes and his Northumbrian Small Pipes to the Piper’s Gathering to be rented to new pipers.
A scholarship fund has been set up in his name, with the proceeds going to the Piper’s Gathering to encourage pipers to learn and continue the tradition of piping.
